Why gutters matter
- Your foundation. Much of North Texas sits on expansive clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. Gutters and downspouts that dump water at the slab make that movement worse.
- Fascia and trim. Overflowing gutters soak the wood behind them until it rots.
- Siding, windows and landscaping. Water sheeting off the roof splashes walls and digs trenches in beds and walkways.
Signs your gutters need replacing
- Water spilling over the front in normal rain
- Sagging runs or gutters pulling away from the fascia
- Leaking seams and corners
- Peeling paint or rot on the fascia behind the gutter
- Dents in gutters and downspouts after a hail storm
5-inch or 6-inch gutters?
| 5-inch K-style | 6-inch K-style | |
|---|---|---|
| Holds | Standard capacity | About 40% more water |
| Best for | Smaller roofs, lower pitch | Large or steep roofs, long runs, heavy downpours |
| Downspouts | Usually 2×3 inch | Usually 3×4 inch, drains faster and clogs less |
We size gutters from your roof area, pitch and where the water needs to go.
Hail-dented gutters
Gutters and downspouts are soft metal, so they show hail first. Dents on them are one of the first things an inspector checks after a storm, and they help tell the size of the hail that hit. Our free Storm Check shows the hail NOAA reported near your address.
Frequently asked questions
Should I replace gutters with my roof?
Often, yes. Gutters hang on the fascia under the drip edge the roofer replaces, and old gutters are easily damaged during a tear-off. Doing both at once saves a second visit and protects the new work.
What are seamless gutters?
Gutters formed on site from a coil of metal, cut to the exact length of each run. With no joints along the run, there are fewer places to leak.
Do gutter guards work?
They keep most leaves and debris out and cut down on cleaning, but they still need an occasional check, especially under heavy trees.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
At least twice a year, and more often if trees overhang the roof.
Can I finance gutters?
Yes, qualified homeowners can finance gutters alone or with a roof, siding or windows. See how financing works.
